We are pleased to announce the availability of a completely new devotional work from St Alban's Press: Daily Maxims and Vita of St John the Wonderworker.
 
This work is laid out as a classic daily devotional, containing a short spiritual sentence for every day of the year, drawn from the sermons, letters, and counsels of St John Maximovitch. It also includes a short Vita of the saint and a small florilegium of his letters.
 
St John the Wonderworker, Archbishop of Shanghai and San Francisco, was one of the most remarkable Orthodox hierarchs of the twentieth century. Renowned for his ascetic life, pastoral tenderness, ceaseless prayer, and care for the poor and displaced, he became a spiritual father to Orthodox Christians throughout Europe, Asia, and America. His words are marked by the same directness, warmth, and uncompromising faith that characterised his life.
 
This volume offers a brief portion of St John’s wisdom for each day: counsels on prayer, repentance, the life of the Church, love of neighbour, and the Christian hope of the life to come. The accompanying Vita introduces the reader to his extraordinary life and ministry, while the selected letters reveal something of his deeply personal and pastoral voice.
